Welcome to our website, dedicated to the book: “The Stories of Smirtz.”
A funny book that this family, consisting of two daughters (aged 12 and 15) and a dad (aged… well, let’s not go down that road), has written together over the course of many years…
On this somewhat unpolished site, you can find all the information you need about the book, including a sample chapter. (Yep, that’s right … A completely free and ready-to-read sample chapter.)
And there you can also check out the table of contents, as that gives you a pretty good idea of the book’s unhinged humor. You can find all of it here: Sample Chapter.
And if you like it, then you can sign up to our email list to receive another free sample chapter and be notified ahead of the book’s release on September 25, 2026; the youngest daughter’s 13th birthday. You can sign up here: Sign up for another free sample chapter.
You’re also welcome to keep exploring this site as the “information smorgasbord” continues with cool facts about the cool authors and how to get in contact with us.
We also have a blog that, among other topics, takes you behind the scenes of our writing journey. Or you can keep reading here and learn more about what the book’s about.

Okay, so to elaborate a little more on what we’ve written …
Our book is a collection of funny stories about a little boy, Smirtz, who gets into all kinds of trouble with his friends.
The stories are also filled with hilarious, ironic takes on adult behavior and hidden “Easter egg” references to our favorite movies, series, and books.
There’s even a somewhat ‘eccentric’ narrator who takes the reader through the stories and, at times, addresses the reader directly to share his own … ‘interesting’ (and often misunderstood) take on what’s happening. So, as you can see, truly an “educational” book for all ages
Maybe even one that the whole family can enjoy together, either read out loud as part of Family Reading Time or for a Family Book Club?
The book also tries to answer some of the big, important questions that have plagued humankind since the dawn of time, including:
“Can you repair a broken ‘Ming vase’ with chewing gum and peanut butter?” (The answer won’t surprise you...)
“Can a medieval catapult be used as transport?” (And on a completely unrelated note: “Do four kids in fifth grade weigh about the same as one catapult boulder?”)
“What does ‘Vintage’ mean? Is it really just a fancy word for ‘expensive trash’?”
“What happens if you’re exposed to something called ‘Ostrich Serum’, in the secret basement of a lab?”
“Is ‘Organic Fermented Quinoa-Chia-Turmeric Porridge’ and ‘Eel-stuffed cabbage’ actually fit for human consumption?”
“When you’re in a tunnel under an old castle and suddenly see a mysterious lever … should you pull it?”
You can read the free sample chapter where Smirtz, and his best friend Heinrich, “visit a gym” and meet:
We promise, these encounters result in total chaos and mayhem.
And, as we mentioned, the chapter is followed by the table of contents, as the chapters are divided into sections with funny headlines, some even hiding references to famous movies and books. So, the table of contents shows the kind of humor we bring to the table... of contents. (Dad joke alert).
Go see for yourself:
Or if you want to know a bit more about the stories first, you can explore the “Smirtz universe” and the characters here:
Ah … so you want to know a little more about who we are? That’s understandable. There’s so much deception on the internet today. For all you know, we could be three weirdoes living in a house on an island in Denmark (… wait a minute …)
Anyway, our names are Arendse, Esther, and Jesper, and we are a family from Denmark. The family has other members, but we’re the “author team” and therefore the most important ones. (Don’t quote us on that …)
The story behind the stories is that several years ago – when the youngest daughter (Arendse) was about six or seven – the dad (Jesper) told her funny made-up bedtime stories every evening about a boy called “Smirtz.”
When she got older, long after the bedtime stories had stopped, she began writing some of the funniest ones down in Danish.
Her big sister (Esther) and dad quickly got involved, and for over four years we’ve all worked on these stories on and off, whenever time permitted.
This includes the last couple of years, which have been spent translating them into English, as much of the humor we wanted to bring actually works better that way. It also opened up a whole new range of possibilities for refining the stories and making them even better.
Along the way, we expanded the universe around the original stories and added the crazy narrator, the hidden “Easter eggs,” as well as the loving “jabs” at adult behavior.

We’re always happy to (virtually) meet new people and talk about Smirtz, writing in general, or both. In fact, if you’re a school class, you might find the book’s “Epilogue” of particular interest.
What else … I guess the last thing we’ve got for you is our blog. Blog
Here we write about all aspects of our book adventure, including self-publication, challenges we overcame, educational aspects, as well as new information.
Or, to be honest … it’s the dad who writes these blog posts, because as Esther put it when she heard of the idea: “2008 called … it said ‘blogging’ is so 2006.”
That’s it! Surf around, read, enjoy yourself, sign up, and feel free to reach out to us.
